These are some sketches and studies of the day-to-day life of my friend Mike, done for a class project. He's the senior pastor at a young church in Calgary called Abundant Life Church.
Hi Tom: I really like your style. I am looking for an artist to take my novel Whalefriend and do a graphic version of it. Does this sort of work appeal to you? Mike Howell howellmr@hotmail.com
very nice sketches! for some reason, my favorite thing is how you pulled off the dynamic direction of brushstrokes on the third sketch... i just love little things like that! :)
This blog is where I will be posting school projects, as well as pieces from the past that I still like. The images on the blog are all from the period between 2005 and the present. I love to design characters and creatures, both real and imagined, so you can expect to see your fair share of both. I do a lot of anatomical studies, so you can bet on seeing a lot of naked guys and animals with no skin, but it's all part of the learning process. We'll try to enjoy it. Together.
"Plan to Fail" comes from a popular phrase my dad told me when I was just finished high school and just wanted to play video games all day instead of getting a job. He said "Tom, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail". It hit me like a ton of bricks, and it's still part of my central out look of the world. I become more and more aware of it's truthfulness and validity all the time. Always have a plan, and if you're too stupid for that, then just set goals for yourself. Either way, always move forward, always explore, always ask questions, always think for yourself, always challenge authority, and especially, always challenge yourself.
